Absolute filter fineness An filtermedium with an absolute filter fineness removes more than 99,98% of the particles intended to be seperated. (s. nominal filter fineness)

Bypass Bypass filtration means the loss of the filter surface by needle puncture marks, which may occur in the cut point range of 1-150 microns nominal. Through the use of specific bands (with monofilament mesh fabrics) or fully welded materials (multifilament needlefelts), this problem is almost solved. Bypass could also due to defective seals or damage the filter media (cracks) occur

Closed filtration Filtration in a closed system (pipeline- or hosesystem), where liquids can be pumped with pressure, so the filter must be able to stand higher grades of pressure.

Monofilament A monofilament thread consists of only one single fibre. The opposite of a monofilament is a multifilament. (s. Multifilament)
Multifilament A multifilament thread consists of at least two fibres. The opposite of a mulitfilament is a monofilament. (s. Monofilament)

Nominal filter fineness
The nominal filter fineness describes the size of those particles, which should be separated by a filtermedium. "Nominal" means, that only a certain rate of these particles is separated, e.g. 70 %. A filtermedium with an absolut filter fineness would hold back more than 99,98% of the particles intended to be separated.
