Development of the first flexible mesh bags
As an alternative to metal wire screens, Bernd Schwegmann discovered a synthetic mesh fabric that was originally intended for screen printing. This fabric proved to be as mesh-stable as metal wire mesh, yet more affordable and significantly easier to process. Thus, the first mesh bags were sewn by Ursula Schwegmann, the company founder’s wife, on a sewing machine in the family’s living room. The advantages were the flexibility in shape, size, and interchangeability, which could be tailored to the customer’s needs.
