It was 1963 when Bernd Schwegmann filed a patent for “sieve bags made of natural and chemical fibers”. Today we can say that this was the best idea for industrial companies in the chemical, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and food sectors in Germany. The flexible, reusable sieve bags made of polyamide monofilament and needle felt even filter micro-particles from liquids and solutions.

In the 1940s, nylon tights were still used to filter paints and varnishes. Bernd Schwegmann was not satisfied with the filtration results due to the stretchy mesh. During his search for a suitable precision mesh, he came across the easy-to-process screen mesh that had previously been used in screen printing. With this material, the meshes did not enlarge when pulled. His wife Ursula made the first screen bag from this fabric in their own living room. The idea for the Schwegmann screen bag was born.

We still manufacture our filter bags from this fabric today. We select the appropriate filter medium (or material) depending on the chemical resistance of the liquid or the temperature specifications of our customers. Nowadays, there are still companies that use pantyhose for filtration – we are always amazed by this.

For Bernd Schwegmann, quality has always been a central concept of his entrepreneurial principles. And even today, we place great value on quality, sustainability and functionality in our in-house sewing workshop at our location in Grafschaft.

Custom-made screen bags from Schwegmann are the preferred choice for production plants without filter housings or cost-effective retrofitting options. They can be integrated into the respective production process in a variety of ways. Manufactured from low-silicone or food-resistant materials (polyamide, polyester or polypropylene), they can be ordered from us in over 25 different mesh sizes (1 µm to 2000 µm).
